my photo blog, by Julianne

I believe you can learn a lot about a person and what's in their heart by the photos they take. I'm not a professional, and I'm still learning about lighting and camera settings, but I always go for something interesting or poetic, that tells a story or makes one pause to reflect on the bigger..

Sand Dragon/Antlion Damselfly

I have now verified these are also referred to as "Sand Dragons". After getting this shot I finally captured the little beastie and set it free to catch ants, find a mate, flutter around...whatever they do. I'm sure it's a whole lot more fun than me chasing it around with a camera.

Now with extra CREEPY

This is a "Sun Spider" or "Wind Scorpion". Truly they are neither spider or scorpion, but are related to both. They run up to 10 miles per hour and bite like the dickens. Please forgive me for not being willing to turn the jar on its side for a "full frontal". They are not necessarily poisonous,..

Antlion Close-Up

The Antlion again. I don't think it has much hope of catching ants in the house, but it doesn't seem to want to be captured so I can return it to it's outside hunting grounds. At any rate, it's a rather alien looking creature up close, but not in the least worth being leery of.

Antlion

The Antlion is confusing as it looks like a dragonfly or damselfly with very long antennae, and its name doesn't help. In it's nymph stage it does resemble a voracious lion and preys on ants. The winged adult version is often called an Antlion Lacewing or Antlion Damselfly. This one had flown..

I found this carpenter ant trying to climb the water bowl so I assumed it was thirsty. I dropped some water on the patio and waited, and sure enough...

Just a dandelion. They look exactly the same in Denmark as they do in the US. There's somewhat a message about "sameness" in that.

Tiny Whites

These tiny white flowers were all over around the pond. I wanted to see if I could make them appear to be larger (more the size of a daisy). In reality they are smaller than a thumbnail.
