False sidewinding
This harmless bull snake did what bull snakes do well and mimicked a rattlesnake. They will go so far as to coil, rub their scales together to mimic a rattle, hiss and strike. This one only had the retreating while sidewinding down, but once clear of me went back to slithering in a straight line.

Love the DOf you used here, giving full focus on its head (the scary bit!).
Julianne
nuh uh. The scary bit is when their mouth is open. Thanks for the kudos on the DOf. I've been trying to get that right for quite some time now.

The DoF is excellent, which also adds more drama to the shot. Yeah, I am not exactly a snake person....in case you were wondering Still it is perfect shot, and the focus on its head is spot on

Extreme shot of this amazing creature. Great colours, compostion and as mentioned DoF.
DoF is achieved using a large aperture (low F-number)combined with focal-length of the lense. Zoom lenses are ideal for this type of shot.
Sadly you do not save your shots with the EXIF-data, so I can't see which camera you've used , nor can I see your settings. I would be nice if you could save your shot with the EXIF-data intact, but choosing "Saves As" instead of "Save for Web" when processing your pics.
Julianne
All my photos are done as "save as". However, nearly every one of my shots is edited using Photo FX. Maybe that is why the EXIF data isn't visible.
This was taken with my Fuji Finepix on macro. I will tell you my secret to getting this shot.
