Juvenile Bull Snake
I cannot quite figure out what this fellow was doing on the patio. Perhaps the cat dragged it up, or it was simply trying to get warm. It tolerated me for a time, either because it was enjoying being close to something warmblooded, or because it was simply too cold to move much.

Great close up of the only species on earth that makes my blood run cold and every hair on my neck stand up but what a great opportunity

superb, well exposed, super composition. I wish I could see the EXIF for this shot. There is quite a bit of noise, have you used a high ISO-setting? Try adding a bit of contrast this could take care of the noise

This is a Bull snake. They look very much like our rattlers and do in fact specialize in eating the rattle snakes. By the time the rattler realizes that the "pal" it's coming up on isn't one of its own it's too late, the Bull snake already has it by the head and is swallowing it whole. There was a time in Central Oregon's past when it was illegal to kill a bull snake, as they did us such a great service in slimming down the rattlesnake population.
Unfortunately, I don't recall what ISO setting I was using. It was the same as the other shot. the difference was that the snake sort of charged the camera (it's attempt at intimidation), so he got rather out of focus. This was taken on the macro setting.
