Never heard of it and I'm not sure if I have ever seen one before - but I am very happy to see one here at the photo blogs, and especially pictured so beautifully as you always manage to do Bev That's quite a beak it has, is it a big bird?

Thanks Julie and Darren, its an amazing bird, its part of the Kingfisher family and is very common in Australia, the size of it is in comparison to a rather fat seagull, and believe me it flys as fast if not faster. They are very rare here but the centre also has one breeding pair, which will be great if things happen naturally and they breed successfully.

Have to say I have heard of them, I believe their distinctive call has been used in many an old 'jungle' film to make it 'authentic'. However, I had never seen one before even as a picture. Where else can you get to know so many great people and learn so much. Thanks for sharing Bev.

Thank you very much Paddy and your right about their vocal call!
