This and others were flying over our campsite from Mildenhall. Looked huge! but haven't a clue which type it is.

That would be the Hercules C-130 They are quite popular as transportation units in the military. They can carry quite a bit. Parachuters oftenly jump from one of these. They are also commonly used to transport aid to people in catastrophic areas, who are in need of medical supplies or food. You captured it spot on, and I for one find this aircraft quite fascinating. Great shot Bev

Well spotted, Darren. The Hercules C-130, can carry up 90 fully combat-equiped paratroopers. They are also used to deploy vehicles and supplies to troops, and are also used to transport wounded or dead troops back to friendly territory. The don't need a very long landing/take-off strip, but will probably be phased out over a period of time, and be replaced by the Boeing C-17-Globemaster III, which needs an even shorter runway to land on and take-off.
Cool shot Bev, the propellers gives away that you've used a fairly fast shutters-speed. My guess would be somewhere in the region 1/500-1/1000 sec.
