I took this a couple of months back when the herons were nest building on an island in a reservoir, they spent all day just carrying one stick or twig back to their nests.
The weather was awful this day so the picture is pretty grey.

Thanks Julie and Steve for your comments. For a big birds they are very dainty in their movements and in flight, they have to be one of my favourits to photograph.

The Heron is one of my favorite birds to watch, because of its size and stealth movements. It's quite an impressive bird, and I wouldn't mind picturing one. I did manage to picture one when my friend and I went on a fishing trip, the same time I took the trout picture. The sad thing was that it was like 6000 miles away so I couldn't really see it on the picture when I got home, only a little dot which could just as well have been a fly passing the camera lens

Thanks Darren for looking and it doesnt help them being really quite a shy bird, many a time i have had to camoflage up and go along the ground on my belly after one looking like Rambo on a bad day!! but hey, if it gets the shots il go along with it!
