These cormorants are very shy but this one didnt notice me hiding in the ditch on the rivers edge when it went over.

As usual another great shot. You must have a lot of patience to take these.

Nice sharp shot with great colours, with a nice even background. I would have cropped it somewhat tighter. What lense did you use for this shot?

Thanks Steve and Paraman for looking.
I was using the 100-400L f4.5-5.6 i was probably 100ft approx away, i have already cropped the image due to the distance so any further cropping would degrade the quality of the image i think.

I love the layout of this one, and cropping it even tighter would leave only a slim layout which I think would be a shame. At the same time having the clear blue sky around the Cormorant only emphasizes that it masters the skies, which I believe is what bird photography is also about, picturing them at what they do best As always I love the razor sharp textures you manage to bring out in these birds.
Great shot Bev.

Yes im afraid so Julianne, ditches and dark nasty places become second home when day after day your trying to get your subject But its all good fun Regarding photographing dark/black animals, what i do is use AV aperature priority mode, i use single focal point,(again if you dont have this function just focus on the animals face/body) then i compensate my aperature setting to +1, (this is a line of numbers usually at the bottom of your camera screen, showing (-2...1..^..1...+2))it either lets more light in (+) or doesnt allow as much in (-) so the point of focus is directly on the black animal (always focus on animals eyes if possible to get clear crisp images)take your picture and see the results, it again depends on the light conditions, the surroundings/background as to where you take the picture, and compensate accordingly. Hope this helps but again if anything here seems like garble let me know and il do a passage in the forums for you.
