This little mouse regularly visits my bird feeders for a little seed, practically same time every morning, hes become a regular feature.

That's a perfect razor sharp shot Bev, and it's great to have these regular visitors that can be good subjects for a line of photos. It's a little shame with the grass straw that came in front of the camera (close to the head), however, I would far from say that it is too disturbing for this picture as the subject itself is straight on target and the contrast of the image is a joy to look at.
Terrific shot, keep up the great work.

Thanks for pointing that out Darren, i totally overlooked it, i usually clone out things that obscure or distract the subject.

Cloning could do the trick, but it is only my opinion, some may not notice the straw Still it is a perfect shot.
The macro idea could actually be a good challenge, or using a lens to zoom closer in on the subject. Now that you mentioned this Julie, a particular photo from Flyer's photo blog comes to my mind: http://www.freeimagebrowser.com/today/p-1412-a-cat.html
It reveals a lot of details which might work on the mouse as well. Worth a try
