Poles
This picture may look like a bit of a scrapyard but what you are looking at are the preserved remains of the poles and planks that formed a walkway in the boggy fens 3000 years ago. These remains have had a steel 'tank' built around them and a building erected over them to maintain the water logging of the wood. If ever they dry out, they would crumble to dust.

That's amazing, and goes a long way back, probably the longest I have ever heard of. It's incredible how they can preserve these things. Thanks again Paddy for the story and sharing the image.
