And it works!!!!, And it looks great!!!! Not that I doubted for a minute that it would, it’s just that I am a bit of a non starter when it comes to web pages and all this coding stuff. However, yet again, it has been made simple for us to add our blogs to our websites. How many forums would allow it never mind providing the code and tools free of charge so that even people like me can achieve it. Well done again to Darren and the team. If you want to see a real one live, check out www.bearsandhouses.co.uk, hover over the ‘Photography’ menu and you should see a drop down for ‘Visualizer Image Group’ On that page you will see the Pocket Blog, it’s great….. As always Darren, if you want any changes made to my site content that refers to VIG, I am always more than happy to do so. Thanks again

Thanks a lot for the feedback and letting people see how it works Paddy, and especially a big thanks for the added information that you have provided at your site. This is really truly appreciated.

I really recommend giving Paddy's website a visit, as he really knows how to point out how things works in a great and a very useful way that is easy to understand by all. At the same time you will get to see the Pocket Blog in action . Take 5 while you are there to check out his photos as well and if you are a regular here who knows Paddy - leave a comment at his site, I did

The support you provide always takes me by surprise, it is something we seldom encounter and it just proves that good nature still exist out there Thanks again Paddy.

...and by the way, of course it works

OK Darren, ya got me on this one... I have the RSS button showing on the about page of my Pocket Blog. Now if (and I know this is unlikely folks but bear with me on this one..) I had a friend out there with their own web site, how would they be able to use it? If you click on the button it comes up with a page of code do they have to do something with that code? Sorry to sound a bit thick but this RSS has me stumped as to what it does.

It's a good question and a question that needs all the attention it can get as RSS feeds are new to many people. The RSS Live Feeds can be added to peoples pages using Java Script as one of the options. The address which turns up in the addressbar when you click the RSS Live Feed link is the only thing that is needed.

A great example on how people can implement the RSS Live Feed into their pages using a Java Script can be found here:
http://itde.vccs.edu/rss2js/build.php
http://www.rss-to-javascript.com/p/138.html

Here website owners can generate the script for the Live Feeds in any way they want.

Another great example is to add the XML address to any Live Feed sites one may be using, like:
Microsoft Live
Google
Yahoo

For those who are interested in learning more about RSS Live Feeds there's a brilliant article written about this subject at Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. It's a little long and technical so not all may find it that interesting to read

Don’t you just love technology???? I have to admit that after a quick look at the links, I decided to keep well away from them, I am too old to try to learn stuff like that. However, I am lucky enough to have a couple of buttons in my software that allows me to easily add an RSS Reader so if anyone wants to know what it looks like live, I have added Steves Blog to my links page as a temp thing so that anyone can have a look how it works. I have not done two important things. 1) I have not done any formatting, or fancy stuff on the page and 2) I have not asked Steve if he minds lol so it is there for a few days so it can be viewed from an amateur site. Click here to see it.

Also if anyone can remember, I did a few quick articles on the forum as an ’Idiots Guide to Common Photographic Terms’ This has now been done as a illustrated PDF file which can be freely downloaded from my home page. Sounds a lot better than it is folks lol

Nice setup Paddy and way to illustrate how it works The thing about RSS is that it may seem difficult to understand at the moment, but the more we encounter it, the more we take notice of it and the more we learn about it, without really knowing it

The great thing is that you can wake up tomorrow and ie. 3 people may have subscribed to your Photo Blog, because they like your photos and learn from them. The system people use to subscribe to the Live RSS Feeds doesn't really matter, the point is that the blog owner gets as much exposure as possible in a fun and rewarding way.

On a friendly level people can share each others Live Feeds from their website, as you illustrated so perfectly, and this way support each other to get even more exposure (almost like partner sites).

I forgot to mention that people using the Firefox webbrowser, can subscribe to Live Feeds just by clicking the RSS icon in the address bar. This will automatically add the lastest headlines from your photo blog as a dropdown bookmark menu.

RSS may seem overwhelming at first, but in time I am sure many of us can't live without them, as we can get the exact news we want and when we want them.

Red face I have downloaded it

Well, i had to have it as well didn't I? I have now downloaded the pocket blog, and very good it looks as well. http://www.dragonontheweb.com/ But how about this RSS feed? I use Firefox as my browser but I could not see any RSS button there. Could Darren put me right on that one? I don't mind having a go at the other way, but if there is a simple way then why not use it?

And Paddy no I did not mind you testing me out! I was very pleased that you chose mine really. I have not been on that much lately for one simple reason. Work. No, I am not doing any more, but I used to have a little browse when in was quiet, but now the bosses have taken away our internet usage due to one idiot downloading porn. (well maybe I am doing more work now if I think about it!)

So true and of course I will show how it works When you enter a RSS Live Feed site, like your photo blog, a RSS icon should appear in your addressbar as illustrated below.

When you click on the RSS icon within the addressbar, Firefox will prompt you with a bookmark label (the same as when you bookmark an ordinary page). Click the OK button and firefox users can see the RSS Live Feed for your Photo blog being added as illustrated below.

The headlines will automtically update when you submit new photos.
Thats it

I just had a look at your Pocket Blog at your site and it looks great Steve, and I hope that it will bring all Pocket Blog users many more hits along with an increasing interest in what you do and how you do it.

Btw, sorry to hear about the Internet thing, that is really irritating when that happens.

Don't overwork yourself
