Default Some Problems

I have a couple problems with my PC, and it is really starting to bug me.

I have McAfee Security Center, Ad-Aware, and Spybot S&D. I run a daily scan with McAfee, and a weekly scan with Ad-Aware, and Spybot.
Everytime I run McAfee, it never finds anything, Ad-Aware will find maybe 2 or 3 problems, and Spybot usually finds 20 entries on spyware/adware. My computer has been running really slowly latley, and I am guessing that there are some viruses or spyware that those three programs aren't finding.

Also, the control panel won't open, and 80% of the time I try, my computer freezes.

I can't reformat my hard drive, and re-install Windows because there are other people who use this computer, and they don't want to lose their files. I tell them that I will back all of their files up onto a CD, but they still say no.

If you need anymore info, just ask and I'll be more than happy to reply.

Thanks,
Dave

What the lag is actually caused by are your malware protection programs. It's not healthy for your computer if you scan on a daily basis. AdAware SE and Spybot Search & Destroy are great applications, but only scan with them once a month, maybe twice at the most. As for McAfee, that is the best of the bunch for protecting against malware coming onto your computer in the first place. Scan with that once a month, no more. Disable any constant protection systems in Spybot S&D and AdAware, if you have the purchased versions (and when it comes time to renew your subscriptions, don't). You really only need one realtime protection program. Any more can interfere with eachother and cause almost as much harm as the malware it is protecting against. If you feel slightly uncomfortable with only one, don't worry. It's extremely rare that malware just "happens" to come onto your computer. The only real way for it to get on is for you to allow it. Be careful with what you download, and you'll probably be protected from the most common threats. Add McAfee in, and you are safe from just about every threat that you would be safe from if you had 10 other anti-malware programs.
