I have the problem of the Mouse pointer being UNControlable, Can anyone help get control again!
I have used Virus Checkers, SpyWares, Reg checkers Windows registry pro, plus others to try fixing this even tried PC Pitstop ALL to no avail. The mouse just runs off to another part of the screen. I am using a fairly new computer with fast CPU & have plenty of Memory. The mouse problem has moved files to other locations e.g. whilst trying to move a picture to a differant folder in the collection it has been droped in a folder of unknow where abouts, DUE to the mouse running off to another spot on the screen whilst releasing the drag n drop button, Just no control over it. Someone Please come up with an answer to it all ![]() |

If you are using an optical mouse, the mouse pad that you are using must be of one plain color only. For some reson optical mice go haywire when a multi-colored mouse pad is being used(It happened to me).So get a one color mouse pad, that should do the trick.

If it is someone controlling your computer through a trojan horse, unplug your internet connection and see if that stops the eradic behaviour. If it does, you have a big issue, as you have an exploit on your machine allowing someone else to take over your desktop.

Hi MorphuX,
Many Thanks for your input. However, This was the first thing I suspected myself & tried as you suggest unplug from the web, it still continued, even after the many virus checks Trogen sweeps, Spyware checkers etc, hence this request for help! Quote:

I did have the issue some what of what Gary suggested, that my mouse became unresponsive with one I had a few months ago. It was a Logitech MX700, the cordless optical with a charger base. For some reason, the mouse just didnt want to go anywhere I moved it, and sometimes just stalled on the desktop. It never did things on its own such as you were saying by moving items and/or deleting things. It just didnt work at times and/or moved in weird directions. I tried it on my Mac laptop and my PC, and the same results with different bases under the mouse, and without anything but the desk under the mouse. Even tried new rechargeable batteries. My only fix was to get a new mouse. I had the 700 for about 3 years, so it did its thing. I got the MX1000, and it is a nice mouse. No issues. Have you tried changing your mouse to see if it does it with other devices? Might worth a try there.

Hi Gary777 As promised, I'm letting you know The mouse pointer is now stable Tried & Tested on a single coloured mouse pad , then back to the multi coloured . Now Stopping on the Single coloured pad.... Now my problem really begins on getting all those files back to where they should be .. With the annoyance of the mouse running a muck as it did, if the Left button was pressed whilst dragging a file, the pointer shooting off in all directions the frustration of it, the brain automatically released the finger holding down the mouse button, it took some time to realise files were being dumped all over the place or even just copied to the strangest places, what a mess!Sofar found .dll's in with pictures, and as many as 9 copies (batches) of some pictures in other folders where they shouldn't be. If ever a computer got close to being thrown through a window or hammered with a big hammer, this one did... So for anyone else reading this; Pass it on,,, That Optical mice DO NOT like multi coloured mouse pads, Single colour ONLY Thanks Gary777 |

Take a look in Recent Documents. If the short list isn't long enough go to the recent documents folder - something like C:\Documents and Settings\User|Recent

I had the same problem, and now the same solution. Thank you Gary, never even thought the pad was the root of the problem
![]() Blue, I think Sidjen is giving you a suggestion as to how to find your missing files in an easier way. To find picturefiles of all formats, try Picasa2 from Google, it's free and scans your harddisc for all pictureformats and shows you where they are, it also works as a decent little photoeditor for smaller repairs. ![]() |
