I was searching around on google for some help and I was able to delete the nvctrl.exe file... but I still have the symptoms. Can anyone help? Right now I'm running the TREND MICRO House virus scan. I already scanned my computer using Ad-Aware and McAfee but it didn't really do anything... So, what next?

I followed some steps on another website to get rid of this SpyQuake (or something) program and that kinda worked... Once I finished those steps the "Online Security Guide" and "Security Troubleshooting" icons on my desktop went away. But, today they're back again. I also deleted the "nvctrl.exe" file in safe mode... but it's back, too...
Help please? |

ALso, you might need to redelete all of that stuff you mentioned, and also clear our your System Restore Points. With virus's, they like to hide everywhere they can, and this is one place many people overlook. You may get your computer clean, but then your restore point will hold the corrupted info and files and reinfect your system all over again. Make sure to clean any of those points after deleting the nasty stuff from your comp. Just make sure you dont delete unknown or legitimate stuff, because you wont have a restore point to jump back to.

It seems that there is another program running in the background that you don't know about that is constantly checking to see if you deleted any files that belong to the virus. If you did, it restores them. Try posting a list of all your running processes here. Also post all the items that are marked to run on startup. You can use the Visualizer Instant Help program to take these snapshots. Once you post your list, I might be able to tell you what is causing the problem. You might even have a rootkit, which is potentially the most harmful exploit out there, as it can hide or prevent you from deleting other exploits. If this is the case, I'll post here how to analyze your system in a way that can detect rootkits, but rootkits are very rare and this is probably not the problem.
