Hi Steve

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. But this could just turn out to be GOOD luck.. Now you have an excuse to buy a CAMERA and not a Nikon. ;-) *LOL*

I'd go with Julianne's idea, if it hadn't been for my old German Sherpherd, missed me one day, the wife and I were out, and when we came back the dog had been on my desk and taken my beloved Canon 350D and chewed it well and truly.. which cost me about £300 to have reapaired.. So as you can understand, Canon doesn't necessarily mean "you're in luck". :-)

So with regards to cameras and their canine teeth, Canon is probably not your best buy either. But if you don't have a German Shepherd, Rottweiler or the likes, I would definately go for Canon, although switching from Nikon to Canon, or vice versa or from any other brand to another, may cause problems as you've already become accustomed with the features in your old camera. Both camera's do pretty much the same job, but buttons, knobs and dialls are situated differently, and may cause som agrrevation upon making the same mistake over and over again.. "coz that bloody button didn't sit there, the last time" or "than stupid dial did something else, and not what it's doing now, before so why can't I get it to do it again?." No matter what you buy, there will, sadly, still be thieves who can't keep the grubby mitt's to themselves, and quite honestly, I don't think the care what brand it is.. as long as the can flog it off for at few quid, so they can get some money for their next fix. or joint.

Of course being a Canon-man myself, I would like to see you with a Canon in your hands, as, when giving you tips and low level support on your camera, I'm more aqquainted with Canon cameras than with Nikon. I've had a Nikon or two in my hands since I bought my camera.. and alway hand it back to the owner, coz I can't figure out which button does what, as it all seems backwards to me. :-)

Whatever you buy, were looking forward to having you back and posting photos and comments like before.

All the best, and come back soon
Steve (Yes I'm "one of those too" :-)
