Default Away soon

For those who have noticed that I have not posted for a while, well I am away to Spain next week, so I just might take the odd photo while I am away. The camera has been in its box for a while now, with nothing worth posting. I have taken it to a couple of concerts, but for some reason it is not that good in the dark. The other one was better, and I might use that when I go to a concert next. I have tried fiddling with the settings, but without success. However, Spain and plenty of sunshine, and with a bit of luck some half decent photos will come up.

Have a great time in Spain Steve and I am sure you will find something to shoot out there lol. I have not taken a picture for ages, when I do get a bit of time, I don't always feel up to making the effort. Still spring is around the corner so I do hope I can find more time this year to get more serious with my photography.

As for the Nikon in the dark. I have seen some really good shots taken with it in similar lighting and your Christmas lights shots were very good as were the fairground ones. Similar but admittedly, not the same lighting. I have to say though that the concert shots you took on your old camera were stunning. I am sure that it will be possible with the Nikon but during a concert is not always the time you want to be experimenting is it.

I would try using the night mode. If setting manually try setting your metering to spot mode which should measure the light in the centre focus square, have to admit, I am quite a fan of spot metering especially when I can take a reading from a grey card. Like all things photographic, there is an element of trial and error.

Have a great holiday Steve and hope the motivation returns to take some photo's while you are there, i cant comment on how good or bad the camera you have is in the dark, im just useless at any indoor photography and cant blame my camera! and i am at the moment trying to learn as much as i can about working with flash, i try and use as much natural light in my images, but flash is always needed somewhere along the line, but im finding all this technical metering for flash...etc etc somewhat mind blowing bt i suppose its another challenge
Look forward to seeing your images when you get back.

Angry Back with disaster

Well I am back from Spain, and as usual I took quite a few photos, but cannot show them to you. The reason? Some miserable lousy low life pond sucking scum stole my lovely Nikon and the Zoom. Probably the worst week I have had in a long, long time. We were wondering around Torremolinos and I was taking a few photos, and as usual I then put the camera back in the shopping bag that is on the back of my wife’s wheelchair. Some joker must have watched me and followed until I was distracted, perhaps looking in a shop or something.

I have it insured on the travel insurance of course but I am given to understand that it will be paid out on the age of the item not a brand new replacement. As it took all the spare cash to buy that one, I do not know if I can afford to replace it. I will have to see what they give me I guess, and will post again when I know more. In the meantime no more post from me in my blog I guess for some time. I have the old camera of course and will have to start using that again for a while.

Oh steve that is terrible. I am so sorry to hear your camera was stolen.

It is truly unfortunate that we start out trusting until something like that happens to us, and then we get progressively more cautious to the point of being nearly paranoid. They don't give us a choice though, do they? They would steal our shoes if they could figure out how to get them off our feet.

Steve, I am so sorry. I know very well what the Nikon meant to you and how you have progressed with it. Losing it like that is more than material, it is a violation. Sadly, it is also the way of the world and not just in one particular country. We are developing a society that is greed based, totally lacking in basic decency and is protecting the abuser not the victim. A crime like this is abuse and the scum that did it could not care less for the dreams, aspirations and pleasure that what they steal brought to it's owner. A sad day my friend.
