Default Getting my site seen

Dipping my toes into a world of bizarre language and what appears to be contradicting ideas here but I have a question.

As my website is developing I will soon be building the content to the point where it is worth (I hope) people dropping by for a look. Now the main problem with this appears to be getting it found by search engines.

I remember in the good old days that Meta Tags ruled the world and all you had to do was cram a load of relevant, and maybe a few irrelevant if you were cheating, words into the Meta header and that was it.

I have recently read somewhere that Google does not look a Meta Tags at all! From what I can gather it uses the contents of the pages, image names and other stuff. Also many online organisations are there to do the work for you for a huge fee as in they keep pushing your site with the search engines. Not an option for a none commercial site I think

My question:- Is there an easy to understand way of promoting my site so that search engines can find it or, is it so complex now that it is not worth the effort? Don’t get me wrong, I am not a hit junkie but it would be nice to be seen more simply because I know there are people out there that share my interests that I have not met yet.

Now that's a good question and something really worth highlighting. I can completely understand that you want more to see your website and follow up on the content you are adding to the site.

To start you of I can first of all say that you should add the link to your website within your signature here at the forums. Many people come here to read articles and as you are quite an active member this will increase the chances of a visit even more.

Google is mainly built to read the content of the pages within your site to rank you on their search engine, however, adding a few keywords to each page that matches the content within the page, is also a great thing to do as well. All title on a site should also match each page.

The more people are linking to your site the better. Google will check pages that links back to you and rank you even higher, so where ever you can share your website link - do it You may even want to add a link exchange page to your website, where you can add links to sites who are willing to link back to you. I highly recommend adding a page link this, as it can only give your site even more exposure. Add a little note to your link page that you are willing to add peoples link in return of a link to your site at their websites. Maybe you and Steve can help each other out here, by linking back to each other

This is basically what you need to get started, and beleive me just by adding these small features will point you in the right direction.

Good luck Paddy

Thanks for that Darren, Can you still edit the forum Profile??? I know that the Visualizer Today profile does not have a signature. I will be more than happy to link to sites and I will update my links page, never really got started on it. I know linking to Robins Church website has brought me a few interested visits but even better, a lot of the people who have found mine through here have visited his site which has been great. Thanks for the tips

Search engine optimization is becoming comlicated day by day. Google is pushing hard to gain profit out of "PPC". This is the reason why natural SEO is getting difficult day by day
